Beyond Collier’s
Steele drew thousands of pictures during his career – so many that it may take years to catalog his work. While the art editors of Collier’s magazine commissioned dozens of covers and interior illustrations from Steele, he also worked for other leading magazines, newspapers and publishers at a time when great art increased readership. Steele’s illustrations brought many new characters to readers month after month.
